Global Warming

I wish to set the tone here, by opening with a quote from H.L. Mencken

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

The subject of Global Warming is a difficult one for many people, because it has been marketed in emotional terms.  Many good and caring people have become convinced that AGW is an immediate and existential threat to humanity.  Luckily for us all, they are just plain wrong.

The following collection of reference materials should help justify People's Party of Canada policy.  The first link is to our policy sheet on Global Warming AGW and the Environment.  The second is to a comprehensive textbook, simply to establish that there are two sides to this debate.  The third link is to a discussion about the proper structure of the "Adult Debate" suggested by Liberal Minister Jonathan Wilkinson.

Minister Jonathan Wilkinson’s Call for an Adult Debate

Please be aware that there is much misinformation being spread on the topic of AGW and that the PPC is the only political party that actually does have a fully fact-based environmental policy.  An environmental policy that includes all of the facts, such as:

1.)       The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that, “The long-term prediction of climate states is not possible

2.)       Nowhere in its reports does the IPCC make any clear, unequivocal claim that AGW is responsible for extreme weather events

There are actually three separate aspects to the global warming debate.  Only the claim that the earth has warmed slightly over the past two centuries enjoys anything approaching  a consensus of scientific opinion.  The remaining two claims, that the activities of man are responsible for the majority of the warming that has occurred, and that this warming is dangerous to the point of being an emergency, are publicly disputed by a brave but growing number of well-credentialed scientists.

We are well advised to listen to those dissident voices that do speak out, often at great peril to their reputations and careers.  One such individual is our own Dr. Patrick Moore who has had a long and illustrious history of ecological activism starting with the founding of Green Peace.  I have had the pleasure of hearing Dr Moore speak several times.  The final two videos are from 2019 People’s Party of Canada convention in Kelowna and another presentation by Dr. Moore.

Presentation by Dr. Moore

At the Kelowna convention I had the opportunity to ask a question of Dr. Moore from the floor.  I was seeking confirmation because, after taking much time to read through the latest reports from the IPCC, I was unable to find any clear, unequivocal claim of a connection between global warming, man-made or otherwise, and extreme weather events.  I asked Dr. Moore about this and he confirmed that there is no connection.  You read that correctly.  The IPCC makes no such claim in their literature.  In fact, the IPCC is unable even to define what constitutes “extreme”, as it pertains to weather events.

You might want to think about this, when next you read an article that breathlessly reports the latest forest fire, or drought.  Absent any  scientific claim of a connection between global warming and extreme weather, whatever that is, the media does great disservice to its readership by subliminally planting the idea that such a connection does exist.
